Club news

Its getting close to the first race of the season, can you feel it? Thank you to all who helped out at the track this last weekend, things are starting to come together. Some of the work completed:

New barriers in hairpin.

  • Re-roofed over the concession stand
  • Grounds maintenance – mowing, raking, cleanup
  • Repaving portions of the track (see pics below)
  • Put up new barriers in the hairpin

We have two more work days, April 21st and April 24th.  The more people that attend on these days will ensure we can start racing without issues in May. Thanks!

The track paving is complete. Check out these pics for the areas reworked (thanks Bob):

In oval news…

Regarding clone flywheels

“In the interest of keeping the cost of racing the Clone engine low, GVKC will only be allowing the stock flywheel or the billet steel flywheel on the Box Stock Clone engines for 2012. This will be enforced.”

Rookie School

I’ve had many questions about this so just to clarify:

Rookie school will take place Sunday, April 22nd at 10:00 A.M. Please disregard the 9:00 A.M. time as stated on the registration form. Having said that, you probably want to be at the track early so we can promptly start at 10. Although the forecast looks good for Sunday, the Rookie school will take place rain or shine. Parents, please bring your kart and equipment. Part of the class is a safety check.

Cost per rookie is $35 for members, $45 for nonmembers. Parents must have a pit pass for insurance ($10 for members, $15 for nonmembers). There is no need to pre-register, you may bring the form and show up with your equipment on Sunday.

Topics covered in class:

  • How to sign in
  • Pits and safety
  • Kart check and safety
  • Chassis set-up and common maintenance
  • Walk the track/driving “the line”
  • Flags

At 1:00 P.M. we will allow the new drivers out for their first road course practice.
