Pre-order a new transponder during our scoring system upgrade

GVKC is excited to announce that our scoring system is getting an upgrade! For the 2016 season, the club will install a new decoder and MyLaps software to offer members a better user experience and access to the latest technology.

MyLaps X2 Transponder SystemThe new software supports the latest MyLaps X2 Kart transponders, which come bundled with a subscription to a personal MyLaps account where drivers’ data is stored. The new transponders offer pit crews the capability of viewing lap times on a connected device in real time. X2 Kart transponders charge via USB, and are available at a significantly more affordable price point than previous transponders.

The new scoring software will continue to support older MyLaps transponders. To help cover the cost of the upgrade, GVKC is adopting the model used by most karting facilities of offering transponders for rent. For the 2016 season, the club’s existing TX160 transponders will be available at a rental fee of $5 per day.

Currently, X2 Kart transponders are designed as personal devices. We encourage all members who are interested in using this new technology to purchase a transponder before the race season starts to give yourself time to set up your new MyLaps account, register your transponder and activate your subscription. The new transponders are available directly from MyLaps.com for $115.89 plus shipping, or through online kart outlets.

Look for these key events coming up soon:

  • Sunday, March 20: GVKC’s annual membership meeting will take place at the Avon VFW at 11 am. Join us to learn what’s new and sign up for the coming season.
  • Saturday, April 16: Rookie School will be held at the track.
  • Saturday & Sunday April 23-24: Opening weekend!
  • Friday-Sunday, June 3-5: GVKC will host one of three inaugural AKRA Sprint Cup Northern Tour events. No club racing this weekend, but come out to see the action!
  • Thursday-Saturday, July 28-30: Join us for Vintage Weekend.

There may be snow on the ground…but it’s not too soon to start thinking about spring racing! Our 2016 board, selected through uncontested nominations, is now working on a schedule for the coming season. If you weren’t able to meet the board at our annual awards banquet, we’re pleased to introduce them here:

Several positions remain open, and more info on those can be found below. GVKC welcomes candidates for open positions throughout the year, as well as inquiries from friends and members who can offer intermittent volunteer support. Thank you for making our operations possible!

RACE DIRECTOR: For several years, this has been a difficult position to fill with a qualified and available candidate. The board is currently discussed a strategy for sharing the duties of Race Director among a committee of experienced board members to proactively address this need. To share feedback or suggestions, please contact Trevor Frederick or email info@gvkc.org.

HEAD FLAGGER: Candidates who are interested in supporting Sunday race flagging at a per diem of $75 per day (hours: noon to 5 pm) should email info@gvkc.org with a brief summary of qualifications and general availability, for board review. Head flaggers will be need from mid-April through the end of October.

PROMOTIONS: Member Fran Johnson joined the board in January 2016. Additional support in this area is always welcome; to learn more, please contact Trevor Frederick or email info@gvkc.org.

Save the date for GVKC’s annual awards banquet! Please join us to celebrate another season as a race family.

A social hour with a cash bar begins at 5 pm; dinner will begin around 6 pm. An award presentation will follow, with door prizes given away throughout the evening.
