UPDATE – Last race weekend moved to Nov 3rd & 4th

Because of the weather last weekend, we decided to push out the final races of the fall series to this weekend,  November 3rd and 4th. This will be a normal race weekend. Oval races will take place on Saturday followed by road course practice. On Sunday, we will follow racing with track cleanup and closing. As always, the more who participate the quicker and easier we can get it done. Hope to see you there! **Don’t forget** – please send in your banquet reservations as soon as possible so that we can get numbers to the country club for...

Road course is heating up – Week 3

Things heated up this last Sunday at GVKC with temperatures up around 85 degrees. It was great to see a few more Karts this weekend, we got to see the Yamaha Pipe guys for the first time this season. Something else we got to see a couple times was the red flag. The first was in JR Animal Gold when the #95 kart of Tony Scime got tangled up, and then again in the second heat of WKA Animal Blue with a restart. In the Predator class, there was nice tight action between the #86 of Bill Arlow and #13 of Brian Bunce. It was almost choreographic watching the two switch positions back and forth throughout the day. Speaking of positions, there are already consistencies with Nick Fauci, Zach Turner, Justin Decker, and MiKayla Meyer all dominating their classes the last three weeks. Will they hold out? Got Points? You may have noticed already in the website menu, but for those who missed it, I have started putting the points online. If you don’t see your class, don’t worry…I will have them all online soon. You can get there by selecting “points” on the main menu title bar, or by clicking here. Just a reminder that there is no racing this Memorial Day weekend. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and we will see you in June! Oval ResultsRoad Course Race...

May 12th/13th weekend wrap-up…Spotlight on oval

An awesome field of 18 karts showed up at GVKC to set the stage on the 1/8 mile oval and once again the weather was perfect. Speaking of perfect? Max Wood, Spenser Schwartz and Austin Bradley all won their races in their respected divisions. They are all now 2 for 2  in the early season but racers behind them have made several challenges for the lead but to no avail. Its only a matter of time before we see a new winner at the famed winners wall. The racing from front to back produced some exciting racing from the drop of the green and the spectators on hand were entertained. This coming weekend is shaping up to be a good one again as the oval guys will have double duty. First they will run Saturday morning at GVKC and then again on Sunday afternoon as they  head to the Sodus Microd club for a exhibition race. The GVKC oval crew will show their skills on the beautiful 1/10 mile oval and so far, 11 karts are committed. We are hoping to show the Sodus club what we are all about and in turn they will tentatively be coming out to GVKC towards the end of the year to show us what they are all about. Thank you again to all of the members and volunteers’ who have helped out around the oval. We could not do it without you. Spread the word about the oval and see you this weekend. Good luck to everyone. Thank you to Bob Secules for the great article and pictures! If you would like to know more about the Sodus Microd Club, click here. Some of you may have noticed our website disappeared on and off this week. Our host had numerous problems, and I have moved the site to a new server....

Club news

Its getting close to the first race of the season, can you feel it? Thank you to all who helped out at the track this last weekend, things are starting to come together. Some of the work completed: Re-roofed over the concession stand Grounds maintenance – mowing, raking, cleanup Repaving portions of the track (see pics below) Put up new barriers in the hairpin We have two more work days, April 21st and April 24th.  The more people that attend on these days will ensure we can start racing without issues in May. Thanks! The track paving is complete. Check out these pics for the areas reworked (thanks Bob): In oval news… Regarding clone flywheels “In the interest of keeping the cost of racing the Clone engine low, GVKC will only be allowing the stock flywheel or the billet steel flywheel on the Box Stock Clone engines for 2012. This will be enforced.” Rookie School I’ve had many questions about this so just to clarify: Rookie school will take place Sunday, April 22nd at 10:00 A.M. Please disregard the 9:00 A.M. time as stated on the registration form. Having said that, you probably want to be at the track early so we can promptly start at 10. Although the forecast looks good for Sunday, the Rookie school will take place rain or shine. Parents, please bring your kart and equipment. Part of the class is a safety check. Cost per rookie is $35 for members, $45 for nonmembers. Parents must have a pit pass for insurance ($10 for members, $15 for nonmembers). There is no need to pre-register, you may bring the form and show up with your equipment on Sunday. Topics covered in class: How to sign in Pits and safety Kart check and safety Chassis set-up and common maintenance Walk the track/driving “the line” Flags At 1:00...
